2000-Watt Society: a model for sustainability
Achieving international climate targets
Experts have agreed on the climate target of limiting global warming to 2°C until 2050. This requires the maximum level of CO2 emissions to be 800 billion tons, or 80 tons per person until 2050. Today, the average demand per person in Switzerland and Germany amounts to approximately 10 tons or 8,000 Watts per year. Consequently, we need to drastically cut our demand. The target has been defined at no more than 2 tons per person until 2050 and on a long-term basis cutting back to 1 ton of CO2 emissions or 2,000 Watts per capita.
Reduction goals for properties
The reduction goals for the real estate sector have been defined in the SIA D 0216 energy efficiency standard. It sets limits for operating energy, building materials and induced mobility for residential, office and school buildings in line with the requirements of the 2000-Watt Society. This allows for the elaboration of future-oriented concepts for development areas and buildings in the project development stage.
Area development based on the goals of the 2000-Watt Society
Intep has many years of experience in sustainable urban development projects and building concepts. Our research project on area development in line with the 2000-Watt targets will mean an important contribution to the methodology of sustainable neighborhood development.
