Architectural competition “Torfeld Süd“
Neighborhood development concept
In late 2011, Mobimo Real Estate, owner of a 50,000 square meter (approx. 538,000 sq ft) plot in Aarau, Switzerland, launched a competition calling for submissions for a new neighborhood development concept. Aimed at meeting local sustainability requirements while setting new sustainable neighborhood standards, the submissions were evaluated according to various sustainability standards including the SIA 112/1 sustainable construction recommendations, the MINERGIE-P-ECO requirements and the DGNB “new sustainable urban neighborhoods” certification criteria. These systems also support the targets of the 2,000-Watt Society. The architects were asked to submit an urban development concept for the entire district as well as a detailed plan for a multi-story building.
First prize for Schneider & Schneider’s multi-story building
A jury, consisting of representatives of the owners and the city as well as renowned experts, selected a multi-story building submitted by Schneider & Schneider architects. Intep’s head of R&D and DGNB auditor Thomas Rühle, Schneider & Schneider’s sustainability consultant, is excited about the recognition. The 50 meter (164 ft) polygon tower, lined with natural stone, will add to the neighborhood’s vital and distinct character.
