The Swiss Solar Award 2009 goes to „Kraftwerk B“
Since its introduction in 1990, the annual Swiss Solar Award (Schweizer Solarpreis) has been awarded to individuals, institutions and businesses for outstanding achievements in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energies as well as groundbreaking new buildings, renovations and energy systems.
This year’s Solar Award 2009 was awarded to „Kraftwerk B“. Located in the city of Bennau, “Kraftwerk B” is one of the first multi-family buildings in Switzerland to produce more energy than is used for heating, hot water and domestic appliances on an annual basis. A photovoltaic system with a total surface area of over 2,800 sq ft on the building’s slanted roof and the roof of the neighboring building produces 32,000 kWh per year. The excess power of 7,000 kWh is fed into the public grid. A 1,570 sq ft solar thermal system on the west façade of the building provides 30,000 kWh of annual heating energy. Around 10,000 kWh of excess energy are supplied to the neighboring building for hot water every year. Another outstanding feature is the building design with solar collectors, photovoltaic systems and pipes carefully integrated into the slender façade and roof construction.
Intep provided consulting services to the building’s project team on all matters of material ecology, building physics and the MINERGIE-P-ECO certification. We would like to congratulate the architect and client Josef Grab on this achievement!
